CELTICS SUPER FANS FORUM RULES & POSTING GUIDELINES
ALL FORUM MEMBERS AND GUESTS ARE REQUIRED TO READ AND AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING IN ORDER TO POST IN AND/OR VIEW THE CONTENT OF CELTICS SUPER FANS FORUM (hereinafter “CSF”).
I. GENERAL
While the administrators and moderators of this forum will attempt to remove or edit any generally objectionable material, it is acknowledged by members and/or guests that it is impossible for them to review every message. Therefore, all members and guests acknowledge that all posts made on these forums express the views and opinions of the author and not the administrators or moderators (except for posts by these people as the case may be) and hence the administrators or moderators will not be held liable for any objectionable content posted on this site by any member.
You agree not to post or link to any abusive, obscene, vulgar, defamatory, libelous, hateful, threatening, sexually-explicit or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned. You agree that the administrators and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any post or topic at any time should they see fit in their sole discretion. As a user you agree to any information you have entered being stored in a database. While this information will not be disclosed to any third party without your consent or as otherwise required by law, the administrators and moderators cannot be held responsible for any hacking attempt that may lead to the data being compromised.
II. CSF MODERATING PHILOSOPHY
The administrators and moderators of this site agreed from the beginning that they wanted a site that was lightly moderated and allowed for as much free expression of opinion as possible. We will not warn, suspend or ban members simply for expressing certain views or opinions subject to the below rules and/or exceptions.
III. CSF RULES
1) Flaming: Avoid posting messages that harass, insult, belittle, threaten or flame another member, forum staff or other persons. Debates and disagreement are fine, but argue with the point, not the person.
2) Trolling: Do not come to this site with the intention of starting a dispute or causing a controversy. Note that a person disagreeing with your opinion is NOT trolling. Keep it civil, even if you're sure the other person is wrong.
3) Spamming: Do not double post or cross-post the same message in multiple sections of the forum. Worthless posts with no content and nonsensical posts eat up space and waste everyone's time. Do not mass-PM multiple members of this site with advertisements of a commercial nature or rumours or negative comments about other persons including any member(s).
4) Offensive Posts, Links or Images: Do not use profanity or post any illegal or offensive material in the forum, on your avatar or in your signature. CSF does not filter every word because we feel that our members can act like adults. Please note that rules of conduct apply to posting and all profile fields of your user account, including, but not limited to username, user title, web site link, avatar, signature, location, or any other informational field that is available for edit in your personal profile.
5) Advertising: Posting of advertisements for products or services, links to auctions, affiliate links, links to promote websites, and so forth is not allowed. If you have a basketball-related or non-basketball-related website, you may include the link to your site in your signature or personal information field in your profile ONLY. This option is limited to only personal websites. Links to commercial or business-related sites are not permitted.
6) No Disclosure of Personal Information: Do not disclose any other member's email, real name, home or work address, phone number, IP address, or other personal information. This includes the posting contents of emails or private messages without the sender's consent. This rule will be strictly enforced.
7) Personal disputes with other persons or forum members: Avoid bringing personal disputes from outside of CSF into the forum. If you have an issue with any person from your interactions with them outside of this forum do not bring it to CSF.
8) Negative comments about this forum or other Boston Celtics message boards, forums, webmasters etc. Avoid posting negative or mean-spirited comments about CSF or other Boston Celtics message boards, blogs or websites. If you have an issue with CSF or the moderating of the forum bring it up with the staff via a PM. If you have constructive ideas for improving the forum, PM a staff member or post (if appropriate) in the dedicated thread in the Water Cooler section.
9) Defamation/Libel: Any posts libeling players, prospects, or basketball personnel or any other persons are strictly prohibited. It's not acceptable to post that you heard Player X has a drinking/drug/sex/personal problem from a "good" source. A link to a credible media source must be posted to support such claims. Other forums and personal websites or blogs are not credible for such purposes.
10) Do not post negative rumours or hearsay about the off court conduct of any Boston Celtics player(s) or any other person(s). If you can't back it up with a mainstream source/link, do not post it. This rule will be strictly enforced and members who violated it will have their accounts suspended or face a permanent ban.
11) Personal information on players, coaches etc. Do not disclose personal information about members of the Celtics or their family members such as their home address, phone number, etc.
12) Claiming to be a public figure: If you are one and wish to post as such, contact a staff member for verification. Such public figures include professional athletes, celebrities of any media, and/or political figures.
13) Playing the Role of Moderator: You're not a moderator so don't correct posters like one. If you have a problem with a post, use the "Report to Mod" function, rather than playing the parent. More often than not, that causes more problems than it fixes. Let us handle what is ours to handle.
14) Attacking/Disobeying the Moderators: If you disagree with something the moderators did (or did not do), fine, disagree and let us know, but do it politely through a PM not in the forum. Do not make posts complaining about any action (or inaction) of the Moderators. Doing so repeatedly and/or aggressively will result in warnings, suspensions and ultimately a ban. Dancing around the rules or purposely skirting them will not help you out much, either. Any abuse of staff members in the forum or via the PM or email is prohibited and will result in a ban.
15) Forum Specific Rules: Please check the sticky threads at the top of each forum for any forum specific rules.
16) One Account per User: multiple accounts are not permitted. If you have a good reason for needing more than one account, contact the administrator and ask for permission.
17) Thread Hijacking: taking a thread off-topic to pursue one's own agenda is prohibited.
18) Shouting: the excessive use of caps and large fonts is prohibited.
19) Temporary Ban Circumvention: The actions of trying to get around a temporary ban that has been put on you such as registering under a new e-mail, username, or IP address will not be tolerated. This will result in a permanent ban on all levels.
20) Abuse of Report to Mod function: Multiple reports per thread, duplicate or frivolous reports will be deemed abuse and subject to warning. Every report is addressed. Please do not report something more than once.
21) Abuse of PM function. Sending harassing PMs to another member or the staff is strictly prohibited. If someone requests that you stop sending them PM, do so immediately.
22) Trouble Making: If you are thought to be causing trouble by a moderator, you will be removed from the forum. This includes making negative posts or comments about the forum or the staff, or the moderating of the forum, or repeatedly failing to heed warnings from CSF staff. Repeatedly sending aggressive or rude PMs to the moderators for any reason will not help your cause and may lead to your being suspended or permanently banned. Our staff is fair and if they pass judgment you can't play by the rules or change certain behavior after being warned, you will be removed. NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
These rules are subject to change. We reserve the right to change them, add to them and interpret them at our sole discretion. Each member is required to keep up-to-date on these rules and any changes to them as a condition of membership in this forum.
IV. REPEATED OR SERIOUS VIOLATION OF THE RULES
If you violate one of the rules and/or the staff feel that you have:
The 1st step will be to warn you. The 2nd step will be to suspend your posting privileges for a period of time. The 3rd and final step will be to ban you from CSF.
The administrator of CSF trusts the moderators and is behind them 100%. Do not try to appeal to the administrator via PM any decision, warning or suspension of the moderators. If you don't want to be banned or blocked, then don't break the rules that were made by the members when this board started. Heed any warnings you receive from the staff and you will not have any problem.
Notwithstanding the above, recently created accounts or accounts with a very limited posting history will be summarily terminated for trolling, flaming, spamming or other prohibited activities without any warning. Further, major offenses will not be tolerated and will result in an immediate ban. While we do have the above warning/suspension/ban rule in effect here, certain offenses can warrant a member’s immediate termination from the forums. If the staff member believes that you should be removed from CSF for the good of the community, you will be. Don’t cause trouble and you will be fine.
IV. REPORTING POSTS THAT VIOLATE CSF's RULES
To report a post that violates a forum rule click on the Report to Mod link within the post and give a brief description of the rule being broken. The link is located at the bottom right hand side of each post. Be specific in your report. DO NOT PM, email, or post in the Forum Discussion board to report offensive posts. Usage of the Report to Mod function is the only acceptable and most efficient means of reporting posts that violate our rules. All reports are kept confidential. You will not be contacted regarding your report. Whatever action is taken, if any, will remain confidential.
IV. POSTING GUIDELINES
When posting, understand that you're trying to communicate with others. So here are some guidelines on this:
1) Try to avoid spelling and grammatical errors. Read your post over before posting it. Try to catch typos. The forum has a spell check function that checks the spelling of words as you type. If a word is underlined in red, please double check to ensure you have the correct spelling. Spelling mistakes, especially in the thread subject line, may be edited by staff members.
2) Format your post in an easily legible manner. Use the preview button if necessary. Be as concise and articulate as possible. Use paragraphs for longer posts.
3) Avoid using ALL CAPS in posts.
4) Post topics in the appropriate forum.
5) Do not start meaningless or trivial threads with little content for discussion. When possible try to post your comments in an existing thread so that the board does not become cluttered with multiple threads on the same or similar topic.
6) Misleading Titles: The subject line of the post should be as informative as possible about the content of the post. This also reduces duplicate posts. Subject lines may be edited from time to time by the staff at their discretion.
7) Duplicate Threads: Check the first page of the board before posting a new thread to make sure someone has not recently created a thread similar to yours. Duplicate or similar threads are subject to being merged or closed at the discretion of the moderator.
VI. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
Q: Part 1: Why was my post removed?
A: Almost every day we receive reports from a few members via the report to mod button complaining about a few posts in the forum and asking that we remove the post and sometime even that we ban or remove the poster from the forum. Sometimes the posts reported should obviously be removed as a clear violation of the CSF rules. In other case, the post may fall in a grey area, perhaps being offensive only to some people. We sometimes remove these "grey" area posts if they were simply an offensive joke or comment and the post didn't have a lot of other meaningful content. As moderators we try to balance a member's right of free expression with another member's view not to be offended. CSF has a bias towards free expression, but where the expression is not all that significant or topical - a mere offensive joke or offhand comment, for example -- we may remove it as the lesser of two evils and to avoid a controversy. We try our best to balance the different concerns and get it right, but moderating is an art and not a science, so please respect that and allow us some latitude in exercising our judgment.
Q: Part 2: Why was my excellent post edited or deleted?
A: Most likely because you broke a forum rule. Keep in mind that your entire post may be deleted if you call another member names or engage in an ad hominem attack. The moderators may not have the time or inclination to go through and edit such posts to make them acceptable.
Q: But I was just responding to someone that attacked me first!
A: It doesn't matter. You should use the Report to Mod button in that case and let the moderators handle it.
Q: Can I PM the administrator or a moderator of my choosing if I see a forum rule being broken?
A: In general, no. For any concern regarding posts in the forum, the ONLY acceptable way to complain or to notify the staff is to use the Report to Mod function. You can add any comments or specific concerns to your report there. If you are concerned about something other than a specific post in the forum, a PM to a staff member is acceptable.
Q: Should I get upset or take it personally if a post or thread I created was locked, moved or deleted?
A: Probably not. We try not to "over-moderate" at CSF. However, moderating is more often than not a judgment call. There are grey areas.
